A new kind of company for new kinds of media

I hate to overuse the word "new," but there's no way around it. We make new kinds of things (social media content, interactive books, inexpensive but fantastically elaborate animations) and we do it in a new way (very different from our competitors) with new tools and a hybrid structure that's (as far as we know) unique among companies in this industry. Certainly we're the only production company lean enough to sell content wholesale to our clients, who then can give their clients more value for money.

When I set out to build this business, I'd already spent many years dealing with production companies through my work in TV news. I already knew what I wanted to avoid:

• Expensive proprietary systems (AVID, et al) which force a company to bill hundreds of dollars an hour for editing and graphics production

• Showing irrational loyalty to any workflow that's clearly no longer the way to go (e.g., using having bored sound techs lazily waving boom microphones over the action while the rest of us work. With apologies to my sound-tech friends, you're an anachronism).

• Incurring debt (we have none). Debt costs have to be passed on to customers, one way or another.

• Clinging with grim nostalgia to any technology, workflow or process because "that's the way the industry has always done it."

So Vee Media is not at all like any other production company, and that can be jarring for clients used to working in old ways (spending tens of hours in edit suites, working at a snail's pace with lumbering crews; seeing their projects assembled cookie-cutter style, etc.). Pretty soon, though, they come around to our way of thinking.
